Aran Wong is a trial attorney whose practice is focused on vindicating the rights of his clients through litigation, arbitration, and administrative actions. With his experience working for governmental entities, a prestigious defense firm, and a nationally acclaimed plaintiff’s firm, Aran brings his clients an inside perspective on the strengths and weaknesses of their opponents. Aran represents both plaintiffs and defendants, from the “little guy” who has been injured all the way up to Fortune 500 companies who need to protect their assets.
Aran is a well-rounded litigator whose practice emphasizes the areas of personal injury, business litigation, environmental and land use litigation, and eminent domain/inverse condemnation. His most recent victories include obtaining a multi-million dollar settlement in an eminent domain action, achieving a defense judgment in an action to shut down a mining operation, and attaining a judicial determination that a municipality is liable for millions of dollars in damage caused by its storm water drainage system.
Growing up in the suburb of Tierrasanta, near the City of San Diego, Aran’s interest in the law began at an early age when he witnessed the importance of our judicial system firsthand. Two of his neighbors, kids like himself, were playing in a nearby canyon when buried ordinance in the canyon exploded. The children were killed instantly.
Although the military insisted that the canyon, which it had used for years, was safe, an attorney was able to force the government to do a thorough cleanup of the canyon and to support the victims’ family. From that day forward, Aran knew that one day he too would become an attorney and serve the community.
Although he was born and raised in San Diego, Aran obtained a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree from Middlebury College in Vermont (1997). After college, he clerked for a local law firm and began his lifelong dream of traveling through some of the world’s most exotic locations – including Central and South America, Africa, Europe, Indonesia and the South Pacific – with a backpack over his shoulder and a surfboard under his arm. Aran received his Juris Doctor from UCLA (2001), where he was Managing Editor of the UCLA Journal of Environmental Law. During law school, Aran worked for the City of San Diego and volunteered at the Natural Resources Defense Counsel and Heal the Bay.
After law school, Aran joined one of the largest defense firms in the world, DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary, where he represented numerous business entities and insurance companies. Aran later joined the plaintiff’s firm Thorsnes Bartolotta McGuire, where he was mentored by some of the most well-respected plaintiff’s attorneys in the country and honed his trial skills. One of those attorneys was in fact the same attorney that had represented the children killed in Tierrasanta and had inspired Aran to become an attorney as a young child.
In 2007, Aran joined Coast Law Group LLP to expand his litigation practice and continue serving the community. He currently practices in the following areas of the law:
-
Business Litigation
-
Personal Injury
-
Environmental Litigation
-
Land Use Litigation
-
Inverse Condemnation
-
Eminent Domain
-
Intellectual Property
-
Landlord-Tenant Disputes
Aran currently lives in Cardiff-by-the-Sea with his wife, Jennifer. He is an active participant in numerous community organizations including the Surfrider Foundation, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and the San Diego County Bar Association.
